FOCUS BUNION – OPERATION
The principle of the surgical method by Rahmanzadeh consists of removing the bony and soft anatomical parts causing the big toe’s deformity and resulting in hallux valgus.
Figures 1 and 2 show the essential anatomical structures serving as starting points for corrective measures in the case of our surgical method. Removal of the bone wedge eliminates the deformity of the axis of the 1st metatarsal bone, realigning it almost parallel to the 2nd metatarsal bone. The two bone ends are stabilized by a small titanium plate fixed with 4 screws.
In addition, the bony prominence at the metatarsal head is eliminated. The articular capsule is incised on the outside so as to provide relief, and contracted on the inside to ensure straightening of the toe. A further correction to the forefoot arch additionally makes it possible to eliminate the toe’s outward tension and achieve a definitive correction.
The operation is performed using general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia.
